Never the Less

Never The Less Bio

Never The Less was formed in early August of 2006. The idea of a new and different kind of cover band was introduced by Rick King (rhythm guitarist and keyboardist) to Donny Simmons (lead guitarist). The idea was to expand our musical abilities and perform music not limited to one “style” of music. The vision was to cater to all or most audiences. Agreeing on this new vision, the twist was that Rick King Drummer of 17 years would be playing rhythm guitar, keyboards and singing back ups, while Donny Simmons rhythm guitar player of 15 years move on up to the complex technical lead guitars. This at first seemed absurd, but now to date has proven to be one of the best ideas and projects ever established. The quest then began for a bass player, singer and drummer. Longtime drummer and good friend, Sean Picken, stepped in to fill the drummer slot but was looking for a slightly different musical direction, and so then parted ways. Rick had put in a call to another long time friend Joel Osmundson. Joel was intrigued by our concept and direction and gladly accepted the position as the drummer for the band. A call was also placed to a bass player by the name of Chad Feuchtwanger who was looking for something a little different as well, and just coming off a slightly more aggressive project, Chad gladly accepted the offer as bass player. The singer was our biggest challenge to fill. The initial thinking was to have male and female singers fronting the show. This did happen but was short lived due to musical differences and scheduling conflicts. Audition after audition was held to find the perfect fit, both male and female singers, one after the other, either not with the same vision or just not very talented singers! Then during a festive night out, Rick King was introduced by fellow musician Corey Clark to Kiley Ferguson, longtime bass player and singer. Rick and Kiley hit it off right away and exchanged information with the hopes of an audition very soon. A few days later Kiley sang his first 3 songs with the band and was offered the position on the spot. They had found their singer! Never The Less was now complete and the vision brought to life. Later on down the road, bass player Chad Feuchtwanger always looking for new musical interests, decided to part ways with Never The Less to pursue future endeavors. Singer, Kiley Ferguson, then asked younger brother, Devin Ferguson, to step in as the new “low end” of Never The Less. Devin Ferguson, also part of another very successful local favorite “The Teddy Boys” agreed to join up with the band.

The band grew fast in popularity over the next few years. They’ve performed at most of the local music venues, as well as venturing out to several other cities in Iowa. As the name “Never The Less” becomes more well known, regional travel and performances are in the near future. NTL has had the opportunity to play several larger events as well as the usual weekend gig. From small town festivals such as Reinbeck’s 4th of July celebrations and Gilbertville Days to larger events like My Waterloo Days. These events have allowed NTL to play along side long time local favorites Major Healey, and share the stage with national acts like Quiet Riot and Great White! Keep an eye out for one of the fastest growing local sensations… Never The Less!
